PomeGran Appoints New CEO and CFO to Execute Strategic Scaling Initiatives as Canada’s Leading Fibre-centric Rural Broadband Provider Expands

Veteran telecom executives, Brent Johnston and Kurban Khanbhai appointed CEO and CFO respectively, effective immediately

TORONTO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–PomeGran Inc., Canada’s leading fibre-centric rural broadband provider, announced today the appointment of two telecom veterans to the C-suite, to add executive leadership strength and increase the company’s focus on strategic scaling initiatives for its hyper-expansion across rural Canada and the US.

PomeGran has appointed Brent Johnston as CEO and Kurban Khanbhai as CFO, both effective immediately. Johnston is a seasoned telecom executive, with his most recent tenure as President of Rogers Wireless. Khanbhai is a proven executive leader in the rural broadband sector, and most recently served as CFO of Xplore Inc.

Johnston has a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Princeton University and a Master’s degree from Stanford University. With decades of experience in leadership roles at Apple and Telus, Johnston is known for his exceptional leadership skills and ability to create dynamic, forward-looking corporate cultures, while executing company objectives.

Khanbhai holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Nottingham University (UK), an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University, alongside the CPA/CMA designation. Khanbhai has significant experience with capital markets stemming from his leadership that supported raising significant capital during his tenure at Xplore and drove the exit to Stonepeak.

“The combination of bringing on Brent as CEO and Kurban as CFO signals a new chapter for PomeGran as we look to redefine what it means to be a leading rural telco in Canada,” said Executive Chairman of PomeGran, Dr. Kalai S. Kalaichelvan. “PomeGran’s new executive leadership team will be focused on fulfilling our mission to remove the digital divide that lies between the urban, underserved and Indigenous populations across Canada and the US. Over the next six months, Brent and Kurban will be supporting PomeGran’s expansion strategies, including additional acquisitions and broadband network expansion projects. ”

“The vision and strategic direction of PomeGran places a balanced importance on both business results and social impact, stemming from the organization’s strong foundational values,” states Brent Johnston, CEO. “I am deeply honoured for the opportunity to lead PomeGran into this next chapter focused on accelerating growth and access to broadband infrastructure for the betterment of North American communities in need of this access.”

Both Johnston and Khanbhai will be based out of PomeGran’s Canadian headquarters in Toronto, Ontario.
